This
course is designed to help students who are planning
to audition for the Visual Arts program at the Alabama
School of Fine Arts. A.S.F.A offers students, grades
7-12, a "unique opportunity to explore the
frontiers of their own talents". ASFA visual
arts students engage in advanced studio work in
painting, sculpture and drawing. This
class will help your child developa
strong personalized portfolio and give him or her
an understanding of art techniques and terms.

paint are only a class away! Award-winning artist
Terry Strickland leads you through this “back
to basics” class, designed for all skill levels
and appropriate for any student searching for the
know-how to paint in a realistic manner.
Working
from a still life, you will explore color theory
and paint mixing, while learning the tried &
true skills necessary

render three-dimensional forms
and capture light with oil paint.
Terry is a contemporary figurative painter whose award
winning and highly collected work has been featured
in The Artist Magazine and the International Artist
Magazine. She has previously taught art at Birmingham
Museum of Art and Brevard Community College in Florida.

Discover
the joy of pastels; from lively textures to soft,
dream-like blending. Let Mary Liz show you the techniques
and versatility of this enchanting medium. You will
learn how to use layering, blending and a variety
of strokes to create depth and luminosity. During
the first four week session, you will create two
landscapes, guided with individual attention by
Mary Liz.

art community. She is a member of the Birmingham Art
Association, Mountain Brook Art Association, and the
Shelby County Arts Council. Her work can be seen at

Sharon
Gates is an award winning artist, an art instructor for
over 25 years, a Signature Member and past president of
the Watercolor Society of Alabama, and an art show judge
with work in private collections throughout the U.S. This
class introduces various acrylic painting methods.

8 Group: Live Model Figure Drawing
|
|
This
figure drawing group is open to all serious artists from
beginner to advanced. The first Tuesday of each month is
costume night and the model is clothed. The remainingTuesdays
of each month the models are nude and will rotate between
male and female. Everyone is welcome to come to the costume
night but no one under the age of 18 may attend on the evenings
that the models are nude.
