Observational
Painting with Oil

Sat.
Dec. 5,
9am–5 pm
Cost:
$95
(Some Materials Provided), Free Lunch!
As
Professor of Painting for 20 years at UAB, Gary
Chapman has taught a Beginning Painting class centered
on mastering the art of seeing and translating that
information to the canvas, creating a convincing
and dramatic illusion. The course is designed around
a sequence of still lives, providing a logical and
instructive progression to mastering oils. In this
one-day course students will paint from one of these
still lives and work to understand and utilize the
elements from Chapman’s Mantra. Novices and
seasoned painters alike will learn to develop an
articulate language of oil paint in order to create
more dynamic and rich paintings. Some experience
with drawing is preferable.
